Wiring Up Your House Recognizing the severity of our environmental crisis, global leaders have committed to a set of ambitious goals including the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris climate agreement. In 2020, government leaders from nearly 200 nations will convene in China under the Convention on Biological Diversity. Collectively, these three policies will shape the development and sustainability agenda for the next decade. All three depend on the conservation of natural capital--the biodiversity and ecosystems that provide benefits to humanity. In the post 2020 agenda, we have a unique opportunity to incorporate nature’s contributions to humanity into global conservation targets. This plenary will highlight the challenges in the integration of science into these policy settings, the information revolution needed (but well within reach) to overcome those challenges, and how the community of practice at this symposium can most effectively engage.
